IBCCES Autism Certified Center
The City of Mesa Parks, Recreation & Community Facilities (PRCF) has partnered with The International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES), a global leader in online training and certification programs, to become the first Parks & Recreation agency in the world to be designated as a Certified Autism Center (CAC). It is our goal to provide every family with an enjoyable and memorable experience while in our facilities or programs, and we are proud to offer specialized services to individuals with autism and other special needs.
Our staff has received specialized training to ensure they have the requisite knowledge, skills, temperament, and expertise to cater to all children, including those with special needs. Training focuses include sensory awareness, motor skills, autism overview, program development, social skills, communication, environment, and emotional awareness.
The Mesa Convention Center is proud to have sensory bins available for patrons attending our events. The bins include a sampling of sensory fidget toys, communication tools, and noise-cancelling earplugs. These items can be requested at the administrative office or requested through an MCC staff member. Additional accommodation includes our low sensory room located inside Building A.

Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Program
We are pleased to take part in the “Hidden Disabilities Sunflower Program” in our city. This initiative is a simple way for our visitors and residents to self-identify they have a disability that might require a little extra help.
Not all disabilities are visible – some are hidden and not immediately obvious, such as learning difficulties, mental health as well as mobility, speech, visual or hearing impairments. Living with a hidden disability can make daily life more demanding for many people, but it can be difficult for others to identify, acknowledge or understand the challenges that are faced.
The easy-to-identify lanyards and bracelets are available on a complimentary basis to those who simply ask for them.
